People With Lived Experiences

People with lived experience of homelessness as an essential part of the work to end homelessness and the Alliance strives to learn from people with lived experience on a continuous basis.

In 2018, we hosted a People With Lived Experience reference group who met regularly to discuss and recommend how PWLE should be integrated into the Alliance. The group presented a report to the TAEH’s Steering Committee in November 2018 with the following key recommendations:

  • To adopt a “Nothing about Us Without US” governance model

  • Creation and support of a PWLE caucus 

  • Establish a mentorship program

  • TAEH undergo a cultural audit 

  • Hire a PWLE staff member

We then launched the PWLE Caucus as a permanent part of our governing structure and are working our way towards achieving the other goals of the TAEH as outlined in the report.
